Computers will never replace humans until they learn to laugh at the boss - Anonymous

Hey everyone. I’m not a celebrity of any sort, nor am I the child of some famous rock star. I just like pouring my thoughts out in my blog, that’s all. =]

This is my story.

A month ago, after completing my final year in college, I went online to check for job openings. The possibilities were endless. Unfortunately, most of the good jobs required ‘experience’, and being a fresh graduate, all hopes of getting a job I’m passionate about diminished into thin air. Yeah, I’ve had experience…

Doing volunteer work in a community hall for FIVE DAYS. Working as a part-time tour guide for ONE MONTH. Served as a librarian prefect for two whole years (but that hardly counts because that was during high school – oh yeah, and the fact that I attended to my duties only during recess when everyone’s having their break). See where this is going? I hardly had any experience, and I’m a free spirit, you see. I don’t just stick to one crappy job for a whole year just to gain ‘experience’. I’m suffocating just thinking about it. I like having my pizza with everything on top, not just the cheese. I know what you’re thinking; people rarely ever get that kind of opportunity. Guess I’m one of those unlucky ones.

Anyway, I decided to apply for only the jobs that I WANTED anyway, and pushed any pessimistic thoughts away from my head. I told myself that I could do anything if I wanted to. In the meantime, while waiting to be called for interviews… I was pretty much UNEMPLOYED.

I felt helpless. Normally I would be attending classes or just hanging out with friends. But there I was, at home and completely bored out of my mind. My best friend was busy helping her Mom bake cookies and selling them, my boyfriend was working, some of my close friends were still in college re-taking subjects they had failed, even my grandma was busy hanging out with her own bunch of friends. So I spent my time watching TV, reading, writing, cleaning my room and what-not.

After one week of doing this and no calls from any companies, I got frustrated. I’m not exactly what you would call, ‘patient’. I know waiting would probably take a month or more, but I needed to do something to feel victorious again. The way I felt when I had completed an essay or succeeded in balancing an account in class. So I turned to the internet for ideas.

One day, I came upon a particular website and discovered they offered ‘home-based-jobs’. I was surprised; I didn’t know you could do jobs from the comfort of your home. I mean that’s just crazy! If everyone knew that, wouldn’t there be like a zillion people out there doing it already? Hmmm. So how come I never knew this?

Anyhow, I decided to give it a shot because - you won’t know about something until you try it, right? Or so I thought. I purchased a data-entry package that swore I would get money instantly. Guess what? I was scammed!! I felt utterly stupid for not checking it out first. Instead, I was one of those vulnerable people who had been taken advantage of. Dang it!! You had no idea how long I sat there in my chair, staring blindly at the computer screen. The only thing I could think of was how that evil person whom I had purchased the so called data-entry ‘package’ must be laughing all the way to the bank. I was disgusted and sad at the same time. I had paid $49.00 for nothing.

The instructions said I had to copy and paste the advertisement given to me & email it to several people and I would get paid $1.00 even if that person I emailed the advertisement to decided not to purchase the item advertised. LIES. I asked my friends if they had gotten an email from me about the certain product and NO ONE had gotten the email. I asked my sister if she had and she said the same thing. I wasn’t surprised when I checked my data-entry member’s account and my earnings showed $0.00. What a fool I was. I tried contacting the person for a refund and that person had mysteriously disappeared. I am kicking myself right now just reminiscing about that horrid day.

I took the time to browse through the forums on the internet and read about other people’s testimonials on home-based-jobs. For those of you thinking about making a career from home, you are in for a serious awakening. If you need stability, I suggest you stick to REAL jobs offered in your local area. But if you’re adventurous, test the waters making a career online and see how you like it. Just remember, if you’re not sure about purchasing a product on the internet, google it first.

P.S. I finally got a call to attend an interview this Friday. =D
